Kubuni Farming Grants - 4 new recipients

Updated: Mar 30, 2022

Lucy, our Kubuni Centre Manager, is off to deliver 4 Farming Grants to residents in the Mbarali District.

These grants allow recipients to offset costs during their farming season. Many rural residents short of funds often turn to loan sharks to access money. After the harvest, farmers are left with loan payments with high interest rates.

We want to break this cycle.

Our grants ensure recipients are able to harvest without having to repay loans with high interest rates. This translates into farmers making more money, and having more money to invest in their farms the next year.

One grant can remove the need for farmers to turn to loan sharks the next year entirely.

* 1 acre of farmland in the Mbarali District can produce 6-10 200kilo bags of unmilled rice. These bags can then be sold between 60,000TSH-120,000TSH depending on the market price. In Mbarali, rice is a cash crop. The money generated by selling unmilled rice allows families to have disposable income that then pays for school fees, medical care, household needs etc.
