The olive branch for children IN

IRELAND

Ireland has a rich volunteer history with the Olive Branch for Children (TOBFC), bringing a wealth of enthusiasm and expertise to our programs in Tanzania.

In 2013, TOBFC formalized its partnership with Draoicht, a student society based at the National University Galway (NUIG), and began hosting volunteers from NUIG and other Irish universities.

That was the beginning of our story in Ireland. Since then, we have received over 100 volunteers, from students in various fields to experts such as podiatrists, nurses and teachers.

In 2019, a group of volunteers decided to register The Olive Branch for Children Ireland as a charity, recruiting a strong trustee board willing to help fundraise, expand the reach of The Olive Branch for Children, grow our volunteer base, and spread the story.

Various fundraising groups from different counties around the country have run fundraising initiatives, including Mount Temple (Westmeath), Skreen (Meath), Nenagh and surrounding area (Tipperary), Convoy (Donegal), Granard (Longford) and more.
Irish fundraising events are always lots of fun – from barn dances to polar dips, our Irish supporters love to have a good time.

The Mount Temple Community Rugby Match has now become a fixture on the TOBFC Ireland summer calendar. On October 4th, 2025, in celebration of TOBFC Ireland’s 5th anniversary, we will have a team compete in the Galway Bay Marathon. TOBFC Founder Deborah McCracken-Nangereke and her husband Putiyei will attempt a full 42 km marathon, while other team members will challenge themselves in the 21 km and 10 km races. Funds raised will support TOBFC education programs.

TOBFC Ireland has directed their support to our Education and Health Care programs. Several Irish corporations, including Dortek, Portwest, and Moore Motors, have stepped up to the plate, providing larger, program-based sponsorships. TOBFC Ireland also operates an active professional development system. Each year, nurses, podiatrists and teachers volunteer with TOBFC in Tanzania and provide essential mentorship and expertise in both health care and education.

TOBFC Ireland was instrumental in establishing our Feet First program. Every year Irish podiatrists continue to provide care to patients and professional development for our staff. This model of training brings world-class expertise to rural Tanzania and ensures the TOBFC healthcare team can provide life-changing care to patients throughout the year.

TOBFC Ireland is a key member of the TOBFC Global Family.
