Our leading 2025 Program Sponsor, LiUNA! Local 183, has been supporting students at The Olive Branch for Children for many years. One of their key educational contributions has been providing Academic Support scholarships.

TOBFC has a large group of students that are now entering high school and
post-secondary studies. In 2024-25, there were 31 post-secondary students and 22 students at the secondary level. For the 2025-26 academic year, TOBFC has 32 college and university students and 20 high school
high school students ready to learn.

While these numbers demonstrate the success of TOBFC’s educational programs, it places more financial demands on our organization. School fees, university fees, technical college fees, school transport, uniforms, school supplies and textbooks, along with accommodation and food for students while away studying, are the biggest and most important annual expenses for TOBFC. In recent years, we have had more students entering prestigious universities and studying engineering, health sciences and other programs that have higher fees. The total costs related to our 2025-26 Academic Support program for our college and university students will exceed $60,000.

Sponsoring a student through The Olive Branch for Children gives a young person in Tanzania the chance to grow, learn, and build a brighter future. Your sponsorship ensures that children have the stability, care, and resources they need to succeed in school and in life.

TOBFC has both organizations and individuals, including many of our monthly donors, providing sponsorships for our post-secondary students as well as for our high school students.

We have experienced many cost increases in the last few years that have directly affected our child sponsorship program. In response to these increases, we now offer two levels of sponsorship – the original or Core level and a new Full Sponsorship level.

Sponsorship Options

Core Student Sponsorship: C$50/€35 per month

This level ensures that a student’s core needs are met so they can focus on their studies. It covers the fundamentals of:

  • Living expenses (housing and care)

  • Nutritious food

  • Medical care

Full Student Sponsorship: C$80/€50 per month

Full sponsorship ensures that all of a student’s academic and personal support needs are met without redirecting general program funds away from other vital initiatives. This covers:

  • Living expenses (housing and care)

  • Nutritious food

  • Medical care

  • School uniforms

  • Transport to/from their academic institution

  • School textbooks and stationery

  • Other school-related expenses
    (excluding school fees)

Our Commitment to Every Student

All students in our care receive the full portfolio of supports from The Olive Branch for Children – regardless of sponsorship level. However, full sponsorship for more students allows us to fund our programs without reallocating resources from other essential services.

By joining our sponsorship program, you become a vital partner in our mission to empower Tanzania’s next generation of leaders.

Sponsor a Student

Our students are working hard, achieving success and setting themselves up for a bright future thanks to the backing of LiUNA! Local 183 and all our wonderful sponsors.

STUDENT PROFILE: Rahim (2nd year Math and Statistics)

Rahim has benefited from LiUNA! Local 183 scholarship funding since 2018 and has reached truly incredible heights. He is currently working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Math and Statistics at the University of Dar es Salaam, where he is the top math student. In 2024, Rahim was selected to compete in a nationwide math competition for the top university-level math students – and he won! This great achievement means that Rahim will go to Ghana to compete on behalf of Tanzania in 2026.
